The great Anne McCue has three dates in NSW later this month – October 21 in Melbourne, october 29 at Newtown, Sydney, Sunday October 30 sees Ann at the Sydeny Blues & Roots Festival at Windsor, and then Saturday November 5th at Beaches Hotel at Thirroul (Wollongong). Head to www.annemccue.com/ for more info. It’s been announced for some time, yet the New York Dolls are playjing this week, for the first time in Australia since 2007. This time, it’ll be as spokespeople and headline performers for The Boroughs, which happen in Melbourne on October 8, Brisbane on October 13 and Sydney on October 15. Each date will feature a stellar line-up of Australian and international music and arts guests, spearheaded by the Dolls. The Boroughs also presents the New York Dolls at shows in Perth on October 7 and Adelaide on October 9th. The Boroughs Culture & Music Festival is a unique and collaborative approach to music, fashion, film and everything that defines New York City, a sub-cultural hub where individuals walk to the beat of their own drum. It is a national event inspired by the underground culture of the five boroughs of New York. A single day, licensed 18+ event, The Boroughs incorporates international and cutting- edge bands, DJs, visual artists, film-makers and fashion designers. This year, you can expect to walk into an urban streetscape representative of the industrial edge of New York. From the main-stage area where bands and DJs play a mix of indie, rock, electronic and hip-hop, wander through alleyways to discover bars, art installations, galleries, a pop-up cinema, market stalls and fashion displays. Building on the success of The Boroughs art gallery concept in 2010, 2011 will see The Boroughs roll out a host of competitions leading up to the event in the field of art, music, skate, film and fashion. Each competition offers patrons a chance to bring their own creative talent to the festival. For more information, head to www.theboroughs.com.auWithout doubt, the perfect cultural fit for The Boroughs is one of New Yorks most influential musical exports, New York Dolls. Formed in 1971, the raw, pioneering punk outfit and its mainstay members, David Johansen and Sylvain Sylvain, paved the way for music to come. In 2010 in a castle in the North of England, the two worked together on a new Dolls album (their fifth to date) titled Dancing Backwards In High Heels. Is Earl Slick and former Blackheart Kenny Aaronson still in the band ?
