Peroxide Party. Lousy image - great rock 'n' roll!

Now I know what you’re thinking, the obvious thing to do here would be to take the piss right? Yes, one look at the photo and you are thinking about contender for ugliest band. Yes they look hilarious and had been passing round the King Kobra approved bottle of peroxide, BUT, (and this will come as a surprise), don’t judge a book by its cover, cos this band ROCKED! Double O Zeros were a power pop band with a strong punk influence (Vibrators / Buzzcocks etc). They were originally from New Jersey, and at one stage were London based in around 84 or 85, before relocating for good to Lose Angeles and resurfacing as The Zeros. That’s right, the one and the same; the Zeros with the purple hair, not the Javier Escovedo led Zeros. This ‘Be A Zero’ EP came out in 85 and it just cooks. Melodic and catchy power pop with glam overtones, very heavy on the melody and five memorable tunes to sing along with. “Show Me” is my favourite, nice melodic line and catchy chorus. Great, great, great.  “Famous” is also a cool tune, snotty vocals and a Holly wood Brats vibe.  Lead singer, Sammy Serious has a damn good voice and knows how to write a catchy pop song.  He never made it big, and most people have never heard of him or the Zeros, which is a pity, cos he has written a stack of catchy and likeable music. Head to Sammy’s web site  where you can buy a CD that has this EP on it and other releases from 81-85.

Never knew the ‘Be A Zero’ EP even existed. I don’t see anything on Sammy’s site about it either. Any idea where I can get a copy?
