Rockbrat Wonders: About The Japanese Air-Guitar phenomenon – Rock Tamashii

Tennis racquets are out !

Believe it or not, some of the best air guitarist’s come outta Japan, so it came as no surprise when I found some air-guitar related items in the racks of a Bic Camera store recently. The first item is the standard inflatable air-guitar – kinda common – and an update on the style which I once saw someone bring to some shows back in 1992. The other item is a hand-held number with a few recorded tunes included. Some of the tunes are bonafide axe cranking classics (Welcome To The Jungle, Walk This Way, Black Night, Smoke On The Water etc), but how do Lenny Kravitz, Green Day and Jet make the cut ? Green Day ? Jet ?! Where the hell are Skynyrd and Freebird ? There are about 8 different varieties of the Rock Tamashii item with many artists to select from (could you go past the Stones Jumping Jack Flash ?). Essentially, there are two different varieties of this bizarre toy – (Rock Tamashii) 1080 yen (2 songs) and (Air Musician) 1680 yen (5 songs) a piece. Rock on brother….(by the way Tamashii means ‘soul’ or ‘spirit’ ie The Spirit of Rock. Further Info here
